New Agricultural Landscapes Design Guide Released
Posted July 19, 2024
We are excited to share that the Chester County Planning Commission has completed its sixth and final Landscapes Design Guide: The Agricultural Landscapes Design Guide!
This new guide supports planning principles and design elements within the county's agricultural landscapes, focusing on new development that's limited and low-density to preserve the county's rich agricultural soils and farm operations.
Specifically, the design elements and principles found within the guide serve to:
- Protect agricultural activity and farmland
- Promote development with compatible rural character
- Protect and restore the environment
- Promote the preservation of open space
- Promote interconnected greenways and wildlife and other natural corridors
Like the previous design guides, this guide is intended for use by developers, design professionals, community members, municipal attorneys, elected officials, administrative staff, engineers, planners, businesses, county planning commission members and staff, and the public.
Other design guides in the series include the Urban Center Landscapes Design Guide (2020), Suburban Center Landscapes Design Guide (2021), Suburban Landscapes Design Guide (2021); Rural Center Landscapes Design Guide (2022), and Rural Landscapes Design Guide (2023). Each guide includes recommended planning polices, design elements for building character, site amenities, and transportation, as well as regulatory strategies and links to online resources.
