Chester County is taking action to address climate change to better protect our communities and secure our future, with a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% in Chester County by 2050. These efforts, and more, are highlighted in the county's new Climate Action Plan, which was adopted by the Chester County Board of Commissioners on October 7, 2021 (See the press release).

The Climate Action Plan was prepared by the Chester County Planning Commission in partnership with the County's Environmental and Energy Advisory Board, which was appointed by the Chester County Board of Commissioners in 2020.

The current plan is an update of the county's 2010 Greenhouse Gas Report, which provided recommendations for energy savings initiatives, many of which have been implemented since its adoption. This new Climate Action Plan was developed with input from public meetings, public comments, and partner review.

While the primary goal of the Climate Action Plan is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, additional benefits include public health, saving money and reducing risks from extreme weather events, enhancing energy security, creating jobs, and fostering social equity.

Chester County's Comprehensive Plan, Landscapes3, also recommends that the county and its partners support a resilient and clean energy network.
